UN Verification and Inspection Mechanism for Yemen - Amendment
The current conflict in Yemen has resulted in a widespread humanitarian crisis , and has left 80 per cent of the population (21.1 million people) in need of some form of assistance. The impediments on commercial imports to Yemen have led to a severe lack of basic services and goods.
The United Nations Verification and Inspection Mechanism for Yemen (UNVIM) was instituted by the United Nations at the request of the Government of Yemen to ensure compliance with Security Council Resolution 2216 (2015) for vessels sailing to ports of Yemen not under its control. UNVIM is managed and operated by the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) and is located in Djibouti, Republic of Djibouti.

The targeted services cover five sectors: (i) tertiary municipal services and solid waste management; (ii) urban water and sanitation; (iii) urban roads; and, (iv) electricity for critical services and housing. During the first year of implementation, the project is being implemented in the form of subprojects in three cities.
The development objective of YIUSEP is to restore access to critical urban services in selected cities within the Republic of Yemen. The project adopts an integrated approach to urban service delivery that provides coordinated, multi-sectoral support to Yemen.

Yemen Emergency Electricity Access Project
The Yemen Emergency Electricity Access Project is an operation that seeks to improve access to electricity in rural and peri-urban areas within the Republic of Yemen. It is financed by the World Bank and is implemented by the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) over a period of three years.
The project aims to restore electricity supply to 200,000 households (1,340,000 people), 400 health facilities and 800 schools. In addition, an estimated 20-30% of the investment value is expected to remain in the Yemeni economy and create jobs. Moreover, the Project will reduce carbon emissions by 430,000t CO2 through sustainable energy solutions and contribute to meeting Yemen’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) to the Paris Agreement.

Provide Operational Support to UNESCO Yemen
On 15 October 2019, UNESCO opened a Project’ Office in Sana’a as part of its ongoing efforts to preserve and safeguard conflict-affected heritage sites in Yemen. The office is part of a European Union funded project ‘Cash-for-Work: Promoting Livelihood Opportunities for Urban Youth in Yemen’ which combines UNESCO’s expertise in culture and development to generate income opportunities for youth in four historic cities of Shibam, Zabid, Sana’a, and Aden. The office, which is hosted by UNOPS, allows UNESCO to closely follow the implementation of the project activities in the four historic cities, consisting of physical rehabilitation interventions, capacity building of cultural heritage stakeholders, technical assistance for the design of urban rehabilitation plans as well as small grants to artists and CSOs in order to support cultural programming and services.
